Should you register as an LLC or as an individual for the Amazon Affiliate program?

I'm considering joining the Amazon Associates Program. Do I need to form an LLC to receive tax benefits, or can I register as an individual? If I register as an individual, would I be classified as self-employed?

Has anyone navigated this process? If so, which option did you choose? Any insights would be greatly appreciated and would help me decide on the best path forward.

Some states, such as Delaware, Nevada, or Wyoming, are particularly business-friendly. However, if you're not located in those states, there may be an additional fee for being considered a 'foreign entity.'

Once that's taken care of, you'll be able to obtain an Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the IRS.

You don't normally need to set up an LLC to engage in affiliate marketing. If you're in the United States, you can work as a sole proprietor and include the business income on your personal tax return. The IRS usually regards a one-member LLC as a sole proprietorship for federal tax purposes, unless you choose to treat it as a corporation. Therefore, I wouldn't establish an LLC simply because you believe that will automatically reduce your taxes. There may be other good reasons for doing so, but the tax treatment alone isn't a necessary one.
